Game Watch: Terps v. Blue Devils

The Terps are facing their rivals, the Duke Blue Devils, on Saturday, January 24, 2009.  Join your fellow scholars alumni from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at McFadden's in downtown DC as they cheer on the Terps!  Drink and food specials will be provided and the game will be featured on flat screens in a dedicated viewing area.  Interested alumni with questions should contact Kevin Baxter.  We hope to see you there!

CPSAA Presents: Grease

The one that you want is back! Grease, Time Magazine’s 2007 pick for “#1 musical of the year,” is rockin’ across the country in this new production direct from Broadway. Take a trip to a simpler time of poodle skirts, drive-ins, and T-birds. “Bad boy” Danny and “the girl next door” Sandy fall in love all over again to the tune of your favorite songs: “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’” and “We Go Together” as well as additional songs from the hit movie: “Grease,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “You’re the One That I Want.” So throw your mittens around your kittens and Hand Jive the night away with the show that’ll make you want to stand up and shout, “A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop A wopbam- boom!”

All interested alumni should e-mail Kevin Baxter prior to January 9, 2009 with the number of interested guests.  Provided interest is high, tickets will be secured and sold to interested alumni during the week of January 26, 2009.

Current Scholars are invited to a session devoted to making themselves more competitive for Law school.  Scholars alumni currently practicing and those currently in Law school will participate on the panel.  All alumni in law school or those who have successfully completed their program are invited to join our panel presentation. 12th Annual “Step to Bat for Kids” Charity Softball Tournament

Suggested Gift: $5.00 (goes toward supporting the tournament)

Join fellow alumni at our annual exhibition game prior to the charity softball tournament.  After the game, players are encouraged to cheer on their respective programs and to be available to their former programs in case they need additional help competing for the trophy.

Join fellow members of the CPSAA in sponsoring a study break for current Scholars on the eve of finals.  During the event, the group will watch hit comedies on the big screen. CPSAA Presents: A Sight-sea-ing Cruise of Old Town Alexandria

America's history comes alive with a 40-minute, narrated sightseeing tour aboard the Admiral Tilp. The Admiral Tilp cruises Alexandria's historic, colorful and picturesque waterfront for an up-close look at this distinctive city. Narration turns back the pages of time with history, legend, and endearing folklore.  The cruise will be followed by a CPSAA happy hour at an Old Town Alexandria tavern.

The Philip Merrill College of Journalism and the Colonnade Society at the University of Maryland present an extraordinary gathering representing sports journalists, coaches and former players as they discuss this year's theme: Sports, Race and the Media.  Panelists include Gary Williams, Len Elmore, Sage Steele, Maury Povich, Scott Van Pelt, Kevin Blackistone, and Michael Wilbon. The CPSAA has been fortunate enough to receive a block of tickets for our members on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested alumni should contact Kevin Baxter.

CPSAA Presents: Navigating the Challenging World of Internships

Current Scholars are invited to a session devoted to making themselves competitive for graduate school and employment through internships.  Ms. Erica Rossi, Chairman of the Board of CPSAA and and Manager at ICOR Partners, LLC, will discuss ways to maximize an internship experience, where to search for opportunities, and much more.  While at UM, Ms. Rossi engaged in internships through the White House, the Supreme Court, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Walt Disney College Program. Additionally, Mark Kenyon, Associate Director of the University of Maryland Career Center, will be on hand to offer advice to students as they seek out competitive internships.

UM School of Music: Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

Join fellow alumni, campus and community members at the seventh annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in the UM Memorial Chapel. This service is modeled after the world-famous Christmas Eve tradition of King's College in Cambridge, England, which is broadcast annually on National Public Radio. Led by directors Stephen Holmes and Timothy Reno, this year's event will use the original format of the first festival service in 1918. The service will feature the University of Maryland Men's Chorus and Women's Chorus; the Maryland Boy Choir; readers from the University campus and surrounding community; and audience participation. Interested alumni can purchase their tickets through the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center website.
